The Greenwood Beat - WFPG Announces New Sponsorship with the GAP Band

Tulsa, Oklahoma - July 28, 2023 - The Greenwood Beat - WFPG has announced its new sponsorship with Tulsa's well-known GAP Band.

The Greenwood Beat WFPG is Oklahoma’s first black, women-owned radio station. The urban radio station broadcasts 24/7 programming with old-school R&B, soul, funk, blues, jazz, and gospel music. The station has radio shows that are syndicated throughout the United States of America in Alabama and the DMV, to name a few, with more forthcoming.

Less than two months old, the station has made some significant accomplishments. However, the announcement of being sponsored by the GAP Band is an extremely big deal. Chief Executive Officer Angela K. Chambers; Chief Operations Officer Francetta L. Mays; and the wife of the late Ronnie Wilson, Linda Boulware-Wilson, met on Thursday to confirm the sponsorship.

Ronnie Wilson founded the GAP Band in 1967 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group became very popular in the late ’70s and 80s with hits such as “Outstanding” and “Burn Rubber on Me.” The women are planning various ways to preserve the legacy of the late Ronnie Wilson’s life story and the GAP Band’s music catalog, all while sharing the music and the history on the station, which reaches around the world.

Beginning today, The Greenwood Beat will broadcast some of the greatest GAP Band hits in an hour-long radio show. The broadcast will start at 5:00 PM CST on the drive home. The station can be accessed from your favorite device, at www.thegreenwoodbeat.com, Apple Music, and TuneIn Radio, and on your smart TV.

“Playing GAP Band songs on The Greenwood Beat - WFPG on Greenwood Ave. is very exciting, and we are so extremely honored,” says Angela K. Chambers. The Greenwood Beat - WFPG is in the Historic Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Greenwood District is also known as The Original Black Wall Street.

Stay connected to The Greenwood Beat - WFPG to keep up with all of the plans.
