Historic Greenwood Owner Angela and Francetta Being the First Black Female-Owned Radio Station

(Staff)

Attention, pretty ladies out there! Are you ready to inspire people with a powerful voice and passion to change the world? Are you ready to step in with us in the world of frequencies waiting for you to broadcast?

Yes! You heard it right. Two black women inspired us so many years ago to stand out and not hide our voices under the oppression of people who want to subside the Greenwood community.

These days, there are so many radio stations roaming in the vicinity of Tulsa, Oklahoma. But these two ladies got the strength of positivity and spread it when no one was there to understand.
In one of the interviews of Angela and Mays, they told the world that Greenwood radio station wasn't just for them.

Francetta Mays says, "This is a lifetime opportunity for the community and the people living in these communities to raise their voices to fulfill their needs and tell the world whatever they have been going through." She further also added that she wants her community to raise their voice, even if it's a poem to share.

The first black ladies encouraged their people so much that they further added to motivate them to take part in poetry and they can have a poetry night. Bring the enthusiasm that was once lost in the people of Greenwood.

They want to bring the old school culture of music and rebuild their society in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and it would be a little bit of everything, and together, they stand as one for their Historic Greenwood District.

The Greenwood Station WFPG

WFPG is the legacy of Wilma Factory Phifer Green. She was herself a woman of positivity and provided a good positive impact on everyone around her, not just her family but her community of hers. Community is something people look up to.

They are your identification. And every one of you has the equal power and possession to take a step forward, follow Angela and Francetta Mays's footprint, continue the WFPG legacy, and give all the good you have to the people you love. So that you can grow and shine one day by letting others shine.

Radio Station

Their radio station has many positive aspects; they have their fundraiser through their station and on the crowdfunding site: GoFundMe, inspiring stories, one-to-one talks, live broadcasts and whatnot, and music to soothe people. It is a 24/7 opportunity for everyone.

Conclusion

The history of Angela and Mays is inspiring to others. The Historic Greenwood District had a brutal history; there was always injustice, and black people were never considered people of equal opportunities like others.

Taking a stand at that time was one of the hardest yet strongest decisions. They not only gave voice to Greenwood, but they also create opportunities for their communities to thrive. The Greenwood Beat launched the radio station on the 8th of June, 2023, and arranged the anchor talk show of Angela and Mays; "Refocused & Informed." There is so much more to come in the upcoming talk shows and live broadcasting. Stay tuned to the channel; It is certainly sure the time has come for everyone in the Greenwood community to rise and go beyond their comfort zone. It's time to let the world know the resilience of Greenwood.
